York Center Plaza

A popular shopping center in Elmhurst, York Center Plaza was built over multiple phases and relied primarily on exposed concrete masonry unit construction. This proposal unifies the public-facing façade with series of steel frames infilled with aluminum panels in a contemporary color palette, with new awnings for each retail unit. The nighttime lighting design emphasizes each frame and storefront, creating a billboard-style beacon facing York Street. A color-blocking paint strategy wraps the remaining facades, carrying the cool greys and blues of the aluminum around the building’s perimeter.
